Description
Scarus quoyiScarus species are a very colorful parrotfish that has very interesting behaviors. They are hermaphrodites that will live in harems in the wild with one dominant male to three or more females. At night, the parrotfish will create a “sleeping bag” from slime that they produce to help protect them from predators. This act allows them to rest without being detected by predators. The Quoy’s Parrot will grow to be about 10 inches in size and will need substantial swimming space. They inhabit coral rich areas of outer channels and seaward reefs in the Indo-West Pacific up to 18 meters deep.
